The African Civil Society Platform for Health (CiSPHA)

Overview

The African Civil Society Platform for Health (CiSPHA) is a Pan-African non-for-profit advocacy platform of civil societies working on health. It was launched in 2009, when 60 networks and network organizations joined forces in 2010 with the determination to mobilize and utilize evidence to advocate for increased domestic resource mobilization (DRM) for health at national levels.

CiSPHA represents and coordinates Civil Society response on HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, family planning, gender, sexual and reproductive health rights, access to medicines, youth, women, key populations, human rights, health financing, health systems strengthening and community systems strengthening. CiSPHA operates through networking, capacity building, partnership development, research, policy advocacy, communication and social mobilization.

To inform advocacy at national level based on continental and global commitments on health, to ensure systematic and reliable increase of DRM towards the transition to a sustainable UHC by 2030.

About CiSPHA

CiSPHA anchors its advocacy on commitments made by AU Heads of States in addition to the UNSDGs, i.e. The African Score Card on Domestic Financing for Health which commits 5% of GDP and 15% of National budget to health amongst other indicators, the Agenda 2063, Africa Health Strategy (AHS), the Addis Ababa Call to Action of the African Leaders Meeting (ALM) and the Agenda 2030 of the UN.

While delivering on its commitments, CiSPHA also works to popularize the above stated commitments, frameworks and tools of the AU to inform CSOs engagement on health and bridge the gap between African CSOs and the AU.
