Advocacy and Policy Officer, WACI Health
As part of a small dynamic team, the Policy and Advocacy Officer, maternity reliever, (6 months based on performance at 3 months) based in Nairobi, will work closely with the line manager and WACI Health colleagues, Specifically, this position will;
- Support the program managers to produce project reports, press release briefing papers and web content.
- Draft and update WACI Health public-facing materials for advocacy and communication ,to build presence and profile nationally, regionally and globally including on social media.
- Create and maintain internal systems, including contact lists, diaries of upcoming events and opportunities and other databases.
- Manage the Advocacy portfolio for Women’s prevention Programme (Dapivirine Ring advocacy, Choice manifesto and the With Me in me Campaign)
- Participate in one technical working group on biomedical HIV prevention in Kenya.
- Attend and represent WACI Health in meetings/events and forums
- Provide content for key communications materials for the assigned program eg develop social media content for Facebook, twitter, newsletters, blogs etc
- Work with the assigned line manager to organize calls, meetings and events and produce reports
- Participate in internal and external calls relevant to the assigned program and follow-up on action points
- Support the implementation of AfNHi and AfNHi Youth cohort activities
- Manage the reference group meetings
- Support the smooth running of the Under the tree Youth Mentorship program
- Develop or update WACI Health campaigns toolkit and identify advocacy targets on key priority countries/issues, with the support of the Programs Managers.
- Work closely with partners to develop coordinated advocacy and advocacy campaigns on identified WACI Health priority themes
A BA degree in a field of study relevant to the technical area
(Communications, Journalism, Global or Public Health,International Development)
2 years of relevant and related experience in policy advocacy and campaigns
- Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills in English
- Effective use of social media and preparing print publications to promote global health projects
- Experience managing online/virtual communications platforms and webinars
- Experience conducting online and print research
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office; strong familiarity with social media, and experience with web content management
- Team player with resourcefulness and the ability to work independently
- Experience with event and meeting planning and facilitation
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fluid, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
- Ability to maintain good relationships with local and international media.
- Excellent writing and the ability to develop and implement communications advocacy strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
