2024 World Malaria Day – Malaria on the Move

World Malaria Day is a day set up by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to spread knowledge, awareness, and understanding about Malaria as a disease. It’s also an opportunity to attract investment through fundraising and donations to fight the disease and research ways to potentially eradicate it.

World Malaria Day itself was started by the WHO in 2007. It has run every year since then and is an event observed around the world.

The day itself is also there to highlight the achievements and breakthroughs that have been made in the fight against malaria. Seven years before it started, in the year 2000, 896,000 reported deaths were attributed to malaria. Contrasting this with 2019, where this number had fallen to 558,000.

In addition to this, numerous countries have, since 2020, been certified as malaria-free. These include China, Uzbekistan, and Argentina.
